    Jamestown Settlement
    13 years before pilgrims landed in Massachusetts, the VIrginia Company of London sponsered a trip to America for 104 men and boys to collect resources. This company endured many hardships and came to be known as America's first permanent English colony.
  • Mayflower Compact

    After being forced away from Virginia territory by dangerous storms, the Mayflower had no choice but to land in cape cod. Because of this, passengers decided that each would live by his own rules because there was no one to govern them. To prevent this from happening, a number of colonists chose to establish a form of government through the composition and signing of the Mayflower compact.

    Revolutionary War

    The American revolution began as a war between the kingdom of Britain and the United States. Colonists were upeset with the unconstitutional treatment they received from the king and parliament. They were loosing the ability to govern themselves and were being ignored by the king, so they saught independence and declared war. America could not win without help, so they formed alliances with France, Spain, and the Dutch Republic.

    War of 1812 - Second War with Britain

    America declared war this second war with Britain for a reason. Britian was impeding trade between American and French colonies and encouraging Native-Americans who opposed American expansion. Britain was still warring with America, even after the revolutionary war, and America was insulted. This war resulted in the ressolution of issues left over from the Revoultionary war.

    Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by president Andrew Jackson and authorized him to negociate with Native-Americans inhabiting the Southern United States for their removal to territory west of the Mississippi River. While agreement was supposed to be voluntary, great pressure was placed on Native-American leaders. The Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminoles were all affected by this.

    Trail of Tears

    The Choctaw were the first Native-Americans to be relocated, begining their journey in 1831. After them, came the Seminole in 1832, the Creek in 1834, the Chickasaw in 1837, and the Cherokee in 1838. Durring their relocation many Native-Americans died due to starvation, disease, and exposure.

    California Gold Rush

    After the presence of gold is discovered and confirmed in California thousands flock to the state from a number of locations. Gold-seekers came from Latin America, Europe, Australia, and China. Tens of bililons of dollars worth of gold was discovered durring this time span, but the desire for gold caused many attacks on Native-Americans who were forced to move from their lands.

    Several southern states decided to seceed from the United States because President Abraham Lincoln would not allow the expansion of slavery.     Assassination of Lincoln
    On the night of April 14 1865, Abraham Lincoln was shot whaile watching the play "Our American Cousin" by John Wilkes Booth in an attempt to revive Confederate opperations. There ws orignially a plan to eliminate the vice persident, Andrew Johnson, and William Steward, the Secretary or state, but Wiliam Steward was only wounded and no attempt was made on Andrew Johnson's life. Andrew Johnson became President after Lincoln, but he was impeached in 1868.
