    Spain claims the land that is now Nebraska 1

    Coronado was exploring and came in to Nebraska in 1540. Then Villasur went to see what was going on in1720 and died.

    Coronado’s Exploration

    Coronado was sent to North America to find cities of gold, spread christianity, and to find new land. He didn't find any cities of gold and went as far north as Kansas.

    Marquette traveled along the Missouri River. He set up a trade route.

    Cavalier said that all of the land that goes into the river is France's. After the 7 years war ended they lost it
  • Étienne de Veniard, Sieur de Bourgmont comes to Nebraska

    He traveled the Mississippi River and claimed all of the land around it. He ended up at the mouth of the platte and created a trading post.

    He was sent to Nebraska to see what the French were doing and catch French fur traders that were in their land. The Pawnee and Oto Indians didn't like him and at night killed most the people that went

    They were sent by Jefferson to see what was all out west from the Louisiana Purchase. They wanted to find the northwest passage but the couldn't.

    His goal was to get info on the Spanish territory out west. He said that Nebraska was going to be like the African desert.
