On the 19th the British met up with Minutemen on a Bridge and shoot them.     Battle of Yorktown was October 6,1781. When Cornwallis was finally settling in to Yorktown. Washington had gained 5,000 soldiers and more were coming. They went to Virginia secretly. They ambushed the British. They had the French battle ships to block any escape and the Patriots won.

    The Delegates approved the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1783. The main writer for the rough drafts was Thomas Jefferson. The Declaration of Independence was based on rights and what a government should do. The final draft was written by the second continental congress.

The Patriots got land from the Atlantic Coast, Mississippi river and South Canadian Border to Florida. The last one was that the United States returns everything that the Loyalists had. Many Loyalists moved to Canada.
