    This was the second and most bloodiest battle of the Revolutionary War. It started when the Americans occupied Breeds Hill to protect the shipyard of nearby Boston. The next day the British attacked. The Americans fought back and the British took heavy losses. The the Americans were quickly out of gunpowder, so they quickly retreated. So their leader, Colonel William Prescott, toldd them "Don't fire untill you see the whites of their eyes".

    When George Washington learned that the King declared war on all the colonies, Washington went into action. He gave his troops orders to have many cannons brought from far-off Fort Ticonderoga. The only way he could do that was to wait for snow in order to drag the heavy cannons on sleds to Boston. By March, the cannons were ready and were pointed directly toward the enemy. Realizing that they had been trapped and outsmarted, the British dumped their own cannons into the harbor and sailed off.
