American Revolutionary War

  • Lexington

    On April 18th, 1775 the british were going to Concord. On the 19th, they stopped at Lexington, which was 5 miles from Concord. 70 minutemen were prepared to fight, rejecting the command to put the weapons down. Someone shot fired and a 15 minute shooting started.
  • Concord

    After Lexington, the British marched to concord only to find an empty arsenal. Seeing nothing, they decided to marc back to Boston. By now, 3000-4000 minutemen were lined up and began firing, quickly killing majority of the Britain's.
  • Bunker Hill

    Gage, the British general, sent about 2,400 soldiers up the hill. The colonists aw the British coming and began to shoot. This battle killed about 450 colonists and over 1,000 casualties for the British.
  • Newyork

    In 1776, The British formulated a plan to stop the rebellion. They sailed over to New York City to seize it with nearly 32,000 soldiers.
  • Trenton

    Washington was desperate for and early victory so they led 2,400 men in rowboats across the Delaware river. These men then marched to Trenton, New Jersey with a surprise attack. The British were furious and planned to go after Philadelphia.
  • Saratoga

    Before the British hit Philadelphia, the general Burgoyne took a troop down to a series of lakes from Canada to Albany, where he planned to meet his fellow soldiers from New York. While fighting the colonial troops, Burgoyne realized the troops from New York were not going to arrive, forcing him to surrender in Saratoga.
  • Valley Forge

    In the middle of a cold winter in Valley Forge, the Americans began a beneficial transformation. A drill master by the name Friedrich Von Steuben, volunteered to train the continental army.
  • Marquis de Lafayette

    Marquis was one of the many foreign leaders that help with the continental army. Marquis helped with the French reinforcements in 1779 and was the leader of a command in Virginia heading towards the last years of the war.
  • Yorktown

    The British decided to move the battle to the south, more specifically Virginia. The general took 7,500 soldiers to the peninsula in between the James and York river and decided to wait in Yorktown. Cornwallis, the general of the British, planned on taking Virginia.
  • Philadelphia

    A rich merchant from Philadelphia named Robert Morris was chosen as superintendent of finance. Along with his associate, Haym Salomon, a Jewish political refugee from Poland, raised funds for the army. The war not only affected the soldiers but the civilians too, making women take on the roles of their husbands. Also allowed over 5,000 slaves escape some even serving in the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    After Cornwallis surrendered, shocking everyone worldwide that the Americans won over the British.The Treaty of Paris is what really confirmed the U.S. independence and regulated some rules in the new nation.
