Colonel Smith commanded the British Troops. Paul Revere and William Dawes rode to warn the villages on the route to Concord and the Congress. Militias were commanded by Barrett and many others. The British suffered a huge loss. The Americans considered the contest a good time to start to the war. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
On the North side of Boston Harbor in Massachusetts General Thomas Gage’s British troops were fighting against colonel William Prescott’s American troops. The British drove the Americans away there were 2,400 British troops against 1,500 Americans fair enough, right? But the British lost about 1,000 men the Americans only lost about 400 men. That showed the British that the Americans are hard to beat, won’t give up easily, and it won’t be cheap to fight them. -
The Battle of Long Island
The British General Howe and American General George Washington were battling in New York. General Washington tried to prevent the British from getting past New York. The British did force the Americans out of New York but still had enough supplies to continue the war. -
The Battle of Saratoga
This battle was fought on the Hudson River in the new York state. There were 5000 British and 13000 Americans. The generals of the British were General John Burgoyne and the general for the Americans General Horatio Gates and Brigadier Benedict Arnold. -
The Battle of Camden
General Cornwallis leader of the British against the Americans leader General Horatio Gates, They fought in South Carolina. Gates and his men came from the north and was threatening the British in South Carolina. Corn Wallis advanced from Camden to meet the Americans and took a position on a creek to the North-East of the town. On Gates’ approach Corn Wallis fell back to Camden. -
The Battle of Cowpens
The American leader was Colonel Daniel Morgan against Lieutenant Colonel Tarleton who is the British leader. Sense they were losing so bad in the south When they won at the Cow Pens it gave the Americans the boost needed to keep fighting and win at Yorktown -
The Battle of Yorktown
In Virginia the Americans and French were fighting against the British, 16,600 Americans and French against 6,000 British. General Washington commanded the Americans, General de Rochambeau commanded the French, and General Cornwallis commanded the British. Yorktown ended the war and the British surrendered.
