  • Period: Jul 26, 1759 to Jul 27, 1759 Fort Ticonderoga

    Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen led the colonists. The colonist were planning a surprise attack on the British Fort, and on May 10, 1775, American forces captured British soldiers while they were still asleep. In 1777, British General John Burgoyne managed to place a canon in Mt. defiance and forced General Arthur to evacuate.
  • Period: Apr 19, 1775 to Apr 19, 1775 Lexington and Concord

    The British and minutemen met in Lexington which ended in the famous "shot heard 'round the world." When the British troops got to Concord they saw militiamen who forced them to retreat to Boston. This battle wa the first time Americans had killed British soldiers in combat.
  • Period: Jun 17, 1775 to Jul 17, 1775 Bunker (Breed's) Hill

    The Americans, led by William Prescott, and the British, led by William Howe proved that there would be a competition between the inexperienced American troops and the trained British troops.
  • Period: Aug 19, 1777 to Sep 7, 1777 Saratoga (Bemis Heights, the second battle)

    Horatio Gates led the Colonials, and John Burgoyne led the British.
    This battle proved that the patriots could beat seizable regiments and that if the British were to win the war, it would be very long and expensive.

    George Washington led the rebels. He guided British forces south and led a night attack to take Princeton.
  • Period: Mar 29, 1780 to May 12, 1780 Siege of Charleston

    Benjamin Lincoln was the colonial commander, while Sir Henry Clinton was the british commander. Colonists were taken prisoner, and it was the worst battle for the Americans in the war.
  • Period: Oct 7, 1780 to Oct 7, 1780 Battle of Kings Mountain

    Loyalists led by Patrick Fergueson and Abraham Depeyster. Patriots led by James Johnston and William Campbell. Battle between militias in South Carolina during the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War, resulting in a decisive victory for the Patriots.
  • Period: Sep 28, 1781 to Oct 19, 1781 Yorktown

    George Washington who led the Americans defeated Charles Cornwallis in this battle. He used strategic warfare and had help from the French to win this battle.
