George Washington, with help from the French, totally trapped British General Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia, and after a solid siege, Cornwallis had no choice but to surrender. This victory pretty much sealed the deal for American independence, and it was a huge turning point in the war.

It was pretty messed up, but it was a compromise between the Northern states, who didn’t want to count them fully, and the Southern states, who wanted to boost their power in Congress.
