    The sons of liberty were American colonist who protested the British rule and taxation. they would organize protests, boycotts and violence to oppose the British rule and are most famous for the Boston Tea Party.

    Townshend Acts of 1767

    The townshend acts were British laws placed on the American colonies. they put taxes on imported goods like glass, lead,paper,tea, and paint. the colonist did not like these laws and protested them.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre

    Nine British soldiers started shooting at a group of protesters. the soldiers were put into place by the British parliament to protect appointed officials. tension was building between people from the colonies and the British and mobs would form around the soldiers and verbally abuse them, throw snowballs and stones.

    Boston Tea Party

    tea was being heavily taxed by Britain, Americans were encouraged to avoid legally buying tea and that led to the East India company being allowed to ship directly to America without having to go to Britain but they would still be taxed. the Americans refused to pay the tax on one ship and were given 20 days to pay or the cargo would be seized. the Bostonians met many times about what to do but decided to storm the ship on December 16th dressed asa native Americans destroyed the entire shipment

    The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The First major battle in the American revolution was the Battle of Bunker Hill and took place in Massachusetts. The battle ended in a victory for the British army however they lost way more men than the patriots who retreated and left the perimeter of Boston. The British Commander-in-Chief Sir Thomas Gage was under pressure to end the rebellion this battle was a sign it was far from ending.

    Adopted by congress in 1775 the olive branch petition was sent to the king of England to prevent war and emphasized that the colonist were loyal to the British. it was signed by people like John Adams , John Hancock and ben Franklin.

    Battle of Trenton

    George Washington's last effort was to cross the Delaware river on Christmas with three ships of men however two turned back due to weather leaving only the ship he led. Washington split his men into two columns and came in from opposite sides.

    The Battle of Camden

    The battle of Camden was a loss for the continental army that solidified British control in the colonies. American troops had lost due to strategic and tactical errors from their poor leadership. It is historically the worst battle of the revolutionary war.

    The Battle of Yorktown

    The battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the revolutionary war. The British stationed themselves in New York and were also facing pressures in Europe from France and ultimately decided that to surrender would be the best option. George Washington's tactic of fighting in trenches so they could attack easily while taking cover was also a major factor in victory.

    The treaty of Paris officially ended the war between the American colonies and the British. After the treaty was signed the British recognized the americas as a state and decided on the agreement of the navigation of Mississippi.

    the 3/5ths compromise is when enslaved people only counted as 3/5ths of people for representation in the house and for tax purposes. This was so a state with a large slave population could have more say in the House of Representatives.

    In philadelphia the constitutional convention was started to revise the states and divide the first federal government. people wanted to create a new form of government and not be under another monarch after a huge effort to break away from one.

    The Great Compromise

    The great compromise was a two house decision that the House of Representatives would be based off of how many people lived in a state and the senate would have equal representation for each state. there was debate over the representation while they revised the articles of confederation.

    The first state to ratify the constitution was Delaware. Hamilton and James Madison led the effort to ratify the constitution with a series of essays known as the federalist papers.

    The bill of rights was adopted on December 12th, 1791 and included America's first Ten Commandments. it was a joint house and senate conference where they settled on the final version.
