  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The Battle of Lexington and Concord was the start of the American Revolution. The battle was fought on the Lexington town green. It was fought between the thirteen american colonies and the british. A full scale war of independence began during the following summer.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The Second Continental Congress created the continental army to meet the threat of the british. This was assisted by the victory of the Vermont and Massachusetts militia. The victory allowed Allen and Arnold to share command of the patriot militia.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    This battle of Bunker Hill was fought early in the Revolutionary war. At the battle the british were victorious. Although the Americans had lost it gave them a confidence boost. The battle mostly occured on the nearby Breed's Hill.
  • Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independece was written by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sheman, John Adams, and Robert R. Livingston. This document was stated that seeking independence for the colonies was necessary for the colonies. The original Declaration of Independence is exhibited in the Rotunda in Washington, DC.

    The battle of Trenton took place in Trenton, New Jersey on the Delaware river. The battle was against George Washingtons Americans and Colonel Rahl's Hessians and British troops. This battle resulted in a Washington victory and was a much needed encouragment for the Americans.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The battle of Saratoga was the turning point of the Revolutionary War. Americans were positioned inbetween Burgoyne's army and Albany. When the Americans attacked they managed to capture 86 percent of Burgoyne's army. The victory was said to give new life to the Americans after losing the Battle of the Brandywine.

    Winter at Valley Forge
    There were no battles fought in the winter of valley forge. It was a six month period of camping for the continential army a few miles away from Philidelphia, Pennsylvania which was under the command of George Washington. Although no battles were fought there was a fight against the elements and low morale.
  • John Paul Jones captures the Serapes

    John Paul Jones captures the Serapes
    On September 23, 1779 John Paul Jones captured the serapes upon Bonhomme Richard. Jones spotted a convoy returning from the baltic. Jones engaged the convoys and after a four hour battle Jones captured Serapes and won a signiture victory for the Continential Navy.
  • Battle of King's Mountain

    Battle of King's Mountain
    The battle of King's Mountain was fought in South Carolina. The British intention was to advance North to invade North Carolina and Virgina. A battle took place and the Americans attacked with a battle cry “Tarleton quarter” which means no prisoners. All of the tories were killed, captured, or wounded. The victory forced Cornwallis to abandon his plans to take over North Carolina and retreat South.
  • British Surrender at Yorktown

    British Surrender at Yorktown
    British surrendered in Yorktown, Virginia on October 19, 1781. This battle ended the Revolutionary war. George Washington and three other french leaders Count Rochambeau, the Marquis de Lafayette and General Anthony Wayne trapped General Cornwallis and the british troops. They were forced to surrender.
  • Washington's Farewell

    Washington's Farewell
    On December 23, 1783 George Washington resigned of his role as the commander and cheif of the continential army at the Maryland State House in the senate chamber. Six years after Washington resigned he became the President of the United States.
  • Treaty of Paris ratified

    Treaty of Paris ratified
    A ratifying convention was scheduled at the Maryland State House in November. The United States needed 13 representatives to vote to ratify the treaty. On January 14th the treaty was ratified.
