  • The Battle of New York

    British general howe attacked Manhattan and hit patriot general Washington on the flank. Lots of washingtons army get killed or captured in the fighting and are forced to retreat to the main defenses on Brooklyn heights and later forced out of New York, giving the win to the British.

    Near chadds ford, Pennsylvania, British general howe led a flank around patriot general washingtons troops behind Brandywine creek. Washington didn't notice until it was too late, resulting in the city of Philadelphia to be taken over and a defeat for the patriots.
  • The Battle of Saratoga

    British General John Burgoyne led a large army down from Canada into New York, expecting to be greeted by a similar British force from New York. The force never came and Burgoyne was surrounded by patriot troops led by Benedict Arnold, forcing him to surrender his army, which convinced foreign countries to join the patriots cause.

    George Washington camped the continental army here in the winter of 1777-1778 in harsh, frigid conditions. 2000+ patriot soldiers died from malnutrition, starvation, disease and exposure by the end of February 1778.
  • The Battles of Vincennes

    An American militia, led by George Rogers Clark, forced a British garrison led by Henry Hamilton, to surrender fort Vincennes. This led to the surrendering of the Illinois territory, and led the shortly later on formed country to acquire the midwest.
  • The Battle of King's Mountain

    The patriots, led by Benjamin Cleveland and others rallied an attack on the Loyalist militia led by British major Patrick Ferguson. On a surprise attack, the patriots surrounded the loyalists and caused many casualties and took many prisoners in the win for the patriots.
  • The Battle of Cowpens

    The Battle of Cowpens
    The battle of Cowpens was an engagement between a patriot force led by Daniel Morgan and a British force led by Sir Banastre Tarleton. Tarleton sent 1100 troops to fight Morgan's 2000. The patriots destroyed the small British force, capturing 800 and killing or wounding 300 men.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    The battle of Yorktown, fought between patriot general Washington and French leader Comte de rochambeau against Lieutenant General Cornwallis. The combined forces completely surrounded general Cornwallis and his army, forcing him to surrender and winning the war for the patriots.

    7 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independance, the Treaty of Paris was signed in Paris by representatives of King George and the United States. The treaty said that America was a country free of britains rule, Florida was given back to Spain, and british leaders recognized American rights to settle and trade west of the original 13 colonies
