    Lexington and Concord
    The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first military actions of the Revolutionary War. The first shots of the war were fired in Lexington as the sun was rising. Following those shots the war broke out.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    The Second Continental Congress was a grooup of delegates from each colony that would meet. Their meetings were to manage the war and move towards independence. It was also the Second Continental Congress that wrote the Declaration of Independence.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought during the seige on Boston. The British owon but for the first time in the war suffered heavy losses. This is when the Colonial Militiamen realized they were able to stand up to the British and make an impact, even if they don't truly win.
  • Declaration of Indepenedence

    Declaration of Indepenedence
    The Declaration of Independence was written by the Second Continental Congress in June of 1776 but was not ratified on all colonies until July, 4th 1776. The Declaration of Independence did precisely what its name suggests it was a document that the colonies used to declare independence from the British. Along with seeking independence the colonies hoped to end the war with the document, but that was unsuccessful.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    This battle took place the day after Christmas due to the fact both sides were civil enough not to disrupt the other's Christmas celebrations with a battle. The battle took place just after Washington's troops had crossed the Delaware river in hazardous conditions to sneak up on opposing forces. Two detachments were unable to cross leaving Washington short men but that did not effect them too negatively as they still managed to capture about two-thirds of the enemy soldiers.

    Battle of Saratoga
    The Battle of Saratoga was the turning point in the war for the colonists. General Burgoyne surrendered there due to the high amount of casualties in such a short amount of time.
  • Winter At Valley Forge

    Winter At Valley Forge
    The Colonial forces camped here over the winter of 1777-1778. Over 2,500 soldiers were killed due to starvation, disease, and exposure.
  • John Paul Jones Captures the Serapis

    John Paul Jones Captures the Serapis
    John Paul Jones captured the Serapis in the naval battle of Battle of Flamborough Head. After four hours American forces ceased the British ship which was the signature victory for the navy. Two days later the American ship sank.
  • Battle of King's Mountain

    Battle of King's Mountain
    The British began pursuin a southern attempt at victory, This battle was fought in South Carolina after the siege on Charlotte. At this battle the Colonists won with very few casualties.
  • British surrender at Yorktown

    British surrender at Yorktown
    This battle lasted from September 28th until October 18th. After the 20th day of battle General Cornwallis surrendered to the French after exhausting their troops and supplies. This was the last major engagement of the American Revolution.
  • Treaty of Paris Ratified

    Treaty of Paris Ratified
    This document was signed on September 3rd 1783 by the Americans It was not ratified until January 4th 1784. This was the end of the American Revolution.
  • Washington's Farewell

    Washington's Farewell
    Washington planned on resigning November 23rd but was barred from his planned resignation by loyalist troops leaving. He did not make it back to Mount Vernon to give his farewell address until December.
