Valley forge was a winter encampment during the winter between 1777-1778. George Washington and his men were heavily low on supplies and were low on food while the disease was rapid in the barracks. Most troops didn't have proper winter clothing and desertion was becoming a problem. George Washington trained his men and taught his men formations and how to use a bayonet. Valley forge is usually called the birthplace of the American Army

After the battle of Trenton, the British retreated to inland New Jersey. Americans met the British at Monmouth Courthouse in Freehold. The temperature that day was over 100 degrees. George Washington and his men were fired upon by the British and the calvary tried to break their lines. The Americans wouldn't budge and it was considered a draw. The British retreated through Monmouth county and left Sandy Hook. 300 British deaths and 350 American. Half the casualties were of heatstroke. -
