    This Proclamation prohibited the Colonists from settling land past the Appalachian Mountains into the Ohio River Valley. This angered the Colonists, so they disregarded the law and petitioned for it to be changed
  • Sugar Act

    To pay for the debt of the French and Indian war, Britain set up a tax on molasses for the colonists. This started to anger the colonists because they had no say in the implementation of the tax
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Following the Sugar Act, Britain set up a tax on anything being printed, mailed, or sold with paper/stamps. In response to this, the colonists formed the Sons and Daughters of Liberty, which protested against the taxes using the motto "no taxation without representation."
  • Boston Massacre

    This was an incident where the British sent soldiers to Boston but one soldier fired and the other soldiers followed his lead and fired into a crowd of rebelling colonists killing several of them. The Colonists responded by making propaganda against the British and increasing support for independence

    The Declaration of Independence was written during the second year of the American Revolutionary War. It declared independence for the colonies from Great Britain. It also helped persuade loyalists to join the fight against the British

    Battle of Yorktown
    This was the final battle of the Revolutionary War. The Colonists had help from the French. The British lost and surrendered to the Patriots at Yorktown. Later on, the Treaty of Paris was signed to officially end the war and solidify independence for the colonies
