    Lexington and Concord

    The royal governor, Thomas Gage, sent British soldiers to Concord to capture military supplies and arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams. The British attempts were foiled.

    Fort Ticonderoga

    Benedict Arnold, Ethan Allen, and the Green Mountain Boys surprised the sleeping British soldiers and captured the fort. This was the first victory for the Americans, and it provided more guns for battles, and served as a moral booster.

    Bunker Hill

    Under the leadership of Colonel William Prescott, a little more than 1000 colonial militiamen built fortification to prevent British attacks on Breed's Hill. Under the leadership of Major General William Howe and Brigadier General Robert Pigot, almost 2,200 British troops attacked Breed's Hill. The Americans lost but it provided a much needed moral booster for them.

    Trenton (NJ Campaign)

    Washington needed a victory in the war, so that his soldiers would reenlist the following year. The crossed the Delaware River and captured Trenton, which was filled with 1,500 Hessians.

    Saratoga

    General Burgoyne lead British troops towards the south, but Loyalist who sought protection slowed down the army. This allowed the 6,000 Continental men and 11,000 militiamen to attack them. This victory proved two things: the American could defeat large armies, and if the British would win the war, it would be a long and expensive war.

    Siege of Charleston

    The American suffered the greatest defeat of the war, when Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered to British troops

    King's Mountain

    Under the leadership of Major Patrick Ferguson, the British attacked the Patriots led by Colonel William Campbell. The British forces made up mostly by Loyalists charged down the mountain and the Patriots stopped them in their tracks.

    Yorktown

    Washington led an army of American and French soldiers. The battle was victorious when the French navy arrived right before Cornwallis's men could be rescued. Cornwallis surrendered the following day.
