  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    Were the first battles of the revolution, British won the Battle of Lexington and the colonists won the Battle of Concord. After a defeat at Concord, British March backed to Boston, while minutemen fired at them the whole way and were able to kill 250 redcoats.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    Battle of Fort Ticonderoga
    Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen attacked with less than a hundred soldiers and were able to capture the fort from the sleeping British. The fort held an advantageous position, able to get to both Canada and Hudson River Valley. This was the first major victory for the colonists. As such, it was a major morale booster, as they no longer seemed to be fighting a losing battle.

    On June 17, 1774, the British forces moved to control breed's hill, in Massachusetts. It took the British three charges until the colonists ran out of ammunition. This was a massive win for the colonists, even though they lost. After the battle, the British learned that the war would not be quick or easy
  • The Battle of Long Island

    The Battle of Long Island
    The Battle of Long Island took place on August 27th, 1776. It was a major victory for the British, being able to seize Brooklyn. They were not, however, able to capture George Washington. This was part of a British Campaign to take control of New York.
  • The Battle of Trenton

    The Battle of Trenton
    Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River on Christmas day, 1776. The next day, the Continental Army launched a three pronged attack and defeated a Hessian garrison. THe next week, Washington was able to lure British forces south and eventually won the Battle of Trenton.

    The battle of Saratoga
    The Battle of Saratoga took place on September 19th to October 7th. British general Burgoyne defeated the colonists, but at a cost. The colonists were later to able to defend another attack and forced him to retreat. Ten days later, he surrendered, and the Colonists won the allegiance of the French.

    The Battle of Monmouth
    The Battle of Monmouth was sign for the patriot cause. Although the battle ended in a draw, it proved the patriots could hold their own against the more experienced British troops. It also proved Washington's skill. While his second in command, Charles Lee, was retreating, Washington took the losing battle and forced it out until dark, when the British retreated.
  • The Battle at Cowpens

    The Battle at Cowpens
    The Battle of Cowpens took place in South Carolina, on January 1st, 1781. The British suffered heavy casualties with 800 men either killed, wounded, or captured. The Patriots, on the other hand, suffered less than 100 casualties. This Battle proved to be a turning point in the Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle of the american revolution. The Patriots had Cornwallis Trapped in Yorktown Virginia, when Washington arrived. They, with French aid, were able to force Cornwallis to surrender. This Battle ended the american revolution, and led to the eventual signing of the treaty of Paris.
