  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    British were trying to find the militia stores of ammunition and arms. Paul Revere and William Dawes warned the militia that the British troops were coming. 79 militia met 1,000 British troops at Lexington, and 8 militia were killed. This was the first battle in the American Revolution. It is also known as the shot heard around the world.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    At the Battle of Bunker Hill volunteers joined the colonial militias and the area around Boston numbered about 20,000 strong. The British remained in control of the city of Boston where the militia camped nearby. The British won because the militia ran out of ammunition and gun powder, but the British suffered heavy losses of more than 1,000 dead and wounded. The battle of Bunker hill was also known as the battle of Breeds hill.
  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    At the battle of Long Island only 20,000 soldiers were on the Patriot force under George Washington. The Patriot's went down hard and lost terribly to the outnumbered British troops. Nathan Hale showed great bravery during this battle by disguising himself as a Dutch schoolteacher and spied on the British troops. When the British caught him they punished him and he died saying "I only regent that I have but one life to lose for my country".
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    The battle of Trenton was fought on Christmas night and while the Patriots were struggling through the winter, the British force was set up in New York. They also had some troops in Princeton, and Trenton, New Jersey, and Washington saw a chance to catch the British by surprise. They camped in Pennsylvania, across from the Delaware River from the British that were camped in New Jersey. Washington led 2,400 troops across the river to surprise the enemy the next day.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    In July, General Burgoyne captured Fort Ticonderoga, but he needed supplies. He sent a force to the American supply base at Bennington, Vermont. A local group of militia called the Green Mountain Boys, defeated them, so they retreated back to Saratoga. He then got captured and surrendered to the Continental Army. The British plan had failed and the Continental Army had a enormous win!

    Battle of Monmouth
    The battle of Monmouth both armies had equal forces, an both sides to claim to have won the war, so they call it a tie between the two. During the war Molly Pitcher had played a big role. After her husband died she took his place working the cannon. She was given the Nickname Molly Pitcher because she brought water to the dehydrated and weak soldiers. Her really name Mary Ludwig Hayes McCauly.
    America - 109 dead, 161 wounded, and 130 missing.

    British - 207 dead, 170 wounded.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    The British fought against the Continental Army and the militia rearranged their positioning. The British was not aware so once the Battle started the British was not prepared. Their commander escaped but his army was demolished. Therefore the Continental Army won this battle.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The battle of Yorktown was the last battle of the American Revolution and the Continental Army gained their independence. The Continental Army worked hard and proved that if you want something bad enough you will work hard until you can get it like the militia did for independence for their country. The militia blocked the British from escaping.
