    -The French and Indian War was part of the Seven Years War between Britain and France.
    -Great Britain was in debt after the war and wanted the colonist to play.
    -There was a change from salutary neglect to mercantilism.
  • Stamp Act

    -Britain put a tax on paper goods.
    -The first tax levied by Parliament on colonists.
    -Some examples of things taxed: legal documents, licenses, newspapers, playing cards, etc.
    -Colonists protested and petitioned the act.
    -They boycotted British good which led to a repeal of the tax.

    -The disagreement was between the British and the colonist.

    -The tax raised prices on tea
    -The people protested by dumping tea into the Boston Harbor

    -The port of Boston was closed until the colonist paid for the destroyed tea.
    -The royal governor could ban town meetings.
    -British officials accused of crimes would stand trial in Britain instead of Massachusetts
    -This suspended the Boston legislature.
    - The Intolerable Acts is also known as The Coercive Acts

    -Delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia.
    -Petitioned King George II for a "redress of grievances."

    -British troops marched on Concord to confiscate military supplies of the "rebels."
    -Patriots met them in Lexington and fighting took place along the remainder of the march.
    -First shots of the revolutionary war.

    -The original draft was written by Thomas Jefferson
    -The words of this document inspired the French Revolution, Abraham Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, and later Martin Luther King Jr. to fight for Civil Rights.

    -The weaknesses are no executive, no judicial, no power to tax, and no power to regulate trade.

    Daniel Shay's Rebellion

    -Shay's rebellion exposed the weakness in the government and led to a call for strengthening the federal government for the future.
    -The rebellion was named after Daniel Shays, a farmer and former soldier from Bunker Hill.
