  • Indian Alliance with Colonists

    The Native American Indians helped with new tactics during the Revolutionary War. They introduced guerrilla warfare. This tactic is when the soldiers would hide, attack, and then run. The Americans used this type of fighting that the British weren't especting. It gave them the upperhand.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord was a change in nature. It changed the important characteristic of the colonists being in a hopless war. It gave them hope to go forward and proved that they did have a chance against Britain.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    This battle was a change of momentum because it switched the power to the Americans. The Americans had the advantage of being on the hill and targeting their cannons at the British below. Many British were killed and the had to retreat.
  • Leadership: Nathan Hale

    Nathan Hale spied on the British soldiers and passed the information to American troops. He gave his life to help his country. The British caught him and he was killed. This characteristic of leadership is commitment because he sacrificed his all for his country.
  • British Alliance with Germany

    Germany supplied different types of guns and jagars (different way of fighting, hunters) that helped the British, especially when the colonists used geurrilla warfare. These new war tactics and weapons improved the British army causing them make a treaty asking for more Germans to fight with them.
  • Leadership: Thomas Paine

    Thomas Paine showed a sense of leadership through his writing. He cared about what the soldiers were going through and he inspired them to fight hard for America. His speeches gave them hope and after having the American crisis read to the soldiers the next day they defeated Hessians.
  • Americans Attack in New Jersey

    Washington used a tactic that not many people use. He attacked the British in the winter. This was a change in momentum by giving the Americans more power. Because most troops settle some where during the winter, they were not expecting the attack which gave Americans the upperhand.

    Washington decided to attack the British in the winter. This is an act of leadership because he developed a creative strategy that was a turning point in the war. He directed the troops closer to victory.
  • Battle of Sarotoga

    During this battle the Americans gained power and the victory made the decision for the French to ally with America. This is a change in momentum bringing strong troops to fight with them and teach them new strategies.
  • French Alliance

    The French becoming allies improved the American army and effected their place in the war greatly. The French helped with supplies and improved the soldiers' fighting skills. In the Battle of Yorktown, the French fought at sea and helped the Americans surround the British troops. This lead to the American's victory.
  • Leadership: Baron Von Steuben

    Baron Von Steubon taught the American troops skills and got them more supplies. He helped increase their confidence as well. He showed leadership through shaping the soldiers into a more strict and stable army. This effected the war because when the British heard about it, along with the French becoming allies with America, the British retreated. With more confidence and skill, the soldiers fighting improved.
  • Leadership: Nathanael Greene

    Nathanael Greene was known for his ability to strategize. For example, he split up the troops and raced Cornwallis' troops to the Dan River, making the British troops exhausted and head to Virginia where the British surrendered. This characteristic is direction because Greene could create ideas that gave America the upperhand.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    This battle led to the resolution. American and French soldiers surrounded the British who then couldn't get to their supplies. Britain surrendered three days later.
  • Leadership:General Cornwallis

    Charles Cornwallis showed leadership when he made the decision to surrender in the war. He knew that was the best idea because his troops were surrounded and would have lost many men if they kept fighting. This characteristic of leadership is choosing the best decision for your country.
