    The Sugar Act was a British law. It was designed to raise revenue from the american colonists in the 13 colonies. This increased the enforcement of smuggling rules. It was sometimes also called American Revenue Act and American Duties Act.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act was when Parliament put tax on all legal documents. Examples of these would be newspapers, marriage certificates, land documents etc.
  • Townshend Duties

    Townshend Duties
    This was when lead, paper, tea, glass, and paint were taxed to help pay for the colonies. The colonists did not like this at all.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was when some colonist started throwing snowballs at the British soldiers. The soldiers then fired into the crowd and killed 5 colonist.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea act was when all of the taxes on the other items ended, but tea was being continued to be taxed. The colonist were not happy with this at all.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonist dress up like Indians and dump the tea from the East India Company into the Boston Harbour. This was to fight and show they did not agree with tax on tea.

    Common Sense was a book written by Thomas Paine. This book got the colonist thinking about the fact that the British were controlling them.
  • The Battle of Germantown

    The Battle of Germantown
    George Washington sends four different groups of troops to attack the British at Germantown. One group gets delayed because of the fog and does not make it to the battle. The battle was an American defeat but it helped with their self-confidence because it was not bad planning that made them lose but circumstances they could not control.

    The Peace Treaty of Paris
    This ended the American Revolution and was between the United States and Great Britain. America was finally recognized as independent. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Laurens signed it.
  • Constitutional Convention

    Constitutional Convention
    The Constitutional Convention was when the American Constitution was adopted. It was when they decided how America would be governed. It took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Great Compromise happened during this time. It stated that representation in the house would be based off of the population of your state.
