    Sent to colonists by the king and declared colonists were not allowed to settle west of the Appalachian mountains. Colonists moved west violating the proclamation line.

    Duties on foreign- made malassaes; colonists would stop smuggling. Colonists still smuggled foreign malasseas. They were being taxed for sugar.

    Quartering act
    British parliament and American colonist tried to provide British soldiers with any needs to help them survive. The colonist said it violated Bill of Rights, British soldiers tried to persuade them to pay for quartering. Colonist were required to provide household for the soldiers.
  • Stamp Act

    Required colonists to purchase special stamped paper for every legal document, license, newspaper. Samuel Adams harassed tons of custom workers, stamp agents, and sometimes royal governors.

    March 1766, parliament repealed the Stamp Act, parliament issued Declaratory Act. Colonists who disobeyed the law were to be tried.
  • Townsend/Duties

    Townsend/Duties
    The indirect taxes or duties leveled on important materials glass, lead, paint and paper-- as they came into colonies from Britain. The colonists were furious and they had well organized resistance.
  • Boston Massacre

    They were competing for jobs with colonies and poorly paid soldiers. Samuel Adams labeled the confrontation the Boston Massacre. There was very minimal killings.

    In 1774, parliament responded to the Boston tea party passing the intolerable; Boston harbor. Thomas Gage was appointed new governor of Massachusetts. Colonist quickly moved into action and assembled first continental congress.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    General Gage orders troops to march to concord Massachusetts and seize colonial weapons. Minuteman intercept the British and engage in battle first at Lexington then concord.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    They fought on Charleston, Massachusetts. The battle was against the British and the Americans and the British won. They then became kind of cocky and bragging on who won.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    This was the convention of delegates from 13 colonies. The Redcoats were storming Boston. The Olive Branch Petition adopted by the second congress on July 5, 1775 it was the final attempt to avoid full on war.
