  • Battles at Lexington and Concord

    Battles at Lexington and Concord
    The jumpstart of the Revolutionary War, the battles at Lexington and Concord started because British troops had intentions of confiscating American arms near Concord. Although no one knows who started the fighting, William Dawes and Paul Revere made the midnight ride to warn the people in the towns. The battle ended with the British retreating back to Boston, due to the fact that the colonists were ready.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill actually occurred on Breed's hill. The colonists knew of British intentions to send troops to take control of the hills surrounding Boston. The colonists mobilized but they still lost the battle. However there was a large casualty rate for the British, and this helped the American morale.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    George Washington took his troops to sneak up upon the Hessians, German-native allies to the British, on Christmas day by rowing across the Deleware River. They were unprepared for the attack and most likely drunk from the past Christmas celebrations they had. The Americans only lost two men out of the 22 that were killed that night. 918 were captured for the American cause.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    Cocky British General John Burgoyne led his troops south from Canada after capturing Fort Ticonderoga. He tried to attack the Americans on September 19th where Benedict Arnold, before he was a traitor, and George Washington defended the British and forced them to retreat. Burgoyne retaliated a second time on the Americans but had to retreat to Saratoga and, eventually surrender.
  • Battle of Monmouth

    Battle of Monmouth
    The British led by Clinton. In this battle, General Charles Lee for America went against Washington's battle plan, and made the battle more difficult. The Americans led by Washington. The Americans tried to surprise the British at Monmouth Court House. This battle was a draw at first, but the Americans had control of the field the next morning.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    George Washington had 17,000 colonial and French troops and General Cornwallis had 9,000 troops. Washington attacked the British and drove them towards the Chesapeake bay, where Lafayette, a French general, was waiting for him. The last significant battle of the Revolutionary War. The Americans had won.
