American Revolution

  • Lexington

    Around 700 British soldiers arrive to Lexington, Massachusetts on warships. Minutemen prepare to encounter and fight the British but were quickly outnumbered. Minutemen began to leave until a shot was fired, in which the British returned fire killing eight minute men and ten injured. The British only suffered one injured soldier.
  • Concord

    After the short battle between the British and American minutemen in Lexington, the British made their way onto Concord. Upon arrival, the minutemen have grown in numbers, now in a unit of in between 3,000 and 4,000 against the British troops. The minutemen bring down several British troops. British troops received many casualties resulting in their retreat into Boston. This was America's first victory in the war.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    British Thomas Gage ordered his British troops to strike at militiamen on Breeder's Hill in order to leave Boston. As a result of the battle, the British lost around 1,000 men while the colonists only lost around 450. This battle was the deadliest battle to be fought in the war. After this battle, the Second Continental congress wrote a peace petition to King George but the King simply declined.
  • New York

    The British took over New York due to that being the place were most colonists expanded their economy. The British took over New York and held about 32,000 troops in that position.
  • Trenton

    Washington drove a fleet of men to a surprise attack on the British in Trenton during the Christmas holidays. The attack worked in resulted in the British fleeting from Trenton
  • Philadelphia

    After the surprise attack in Trenton, the British regrouped and took over the American capital of Philadelphia.
  • Saratoga

    American troops surrounded Burgoyne (a British General) at Saratoga after none of his troops could aid him. This event gave much hope that the Americans could win the war with the British becoming weaker.
  • Marquis de Lafayette

    A French military leader who helped the Patriots fight the war against the British. He also led a command in Virginia.
  • Valley Forge

    A winter camp was placed at Valley Forge for soldiers but it quickly turned bad when food and supplies ran extremely low. More than 2,000 troops died at Valley Forge from various reasons.
  • Yorktown

    The British surrender to the Patriots after being surrounded by American and French troops in Yorktown. The surrender only took less than month to happen after the escape to Yorktown by the British.
  • Treaty of Paris

    John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin discussed how the boundaries and security of America's independence was going to take place. They ended up with the Treaty of Paris which confirmed what was their national ground.
