    Knowing that New York would probably be a likely spot for the British to take over, Commander-in-Chief took his troops and set up defenses there. Little did he know that the British had twice the size of their army. Washington sent the majority of his troops to Manhattan where he thought would be the hardest to defend. The British came from the opposite direction which panicked the Americans. The British were able to defeat the Americans in the first big battle of the Revolutionary War.

    William Howe's British troops looked to take over Fort Washington being that it was the last American refuge in Manhattan. The British attack came from the north, south, and east. The American men were overwhelmed from this and were dying out fast. They were commanded to surrender by Robert Magaw their commander. The British won and the Americans were chased into Pennsylvania.

    This battle happened after General Washington was able to transport his troops across the Delaware River to surprise attack the Hessians. Since the Hessian soldiers were surprised by the attack the Americans were able to defeat them. This was a huge turning point for the Continental Army being that they were just about days from complete defeat.

    This battle was in Priceton, NJ. This was a victory for the Americas after Washington made Charles Mawhoods (commander of the British) retreat to Charles Cornwallis. Although, some British did take refuge in Nassau Hall, but they were also forced to surrender by the militia. After this American victory many more people started to enlist in the American Army.

    Americans, there was no way for them to take on the British. The militia sent in several attacks and all failed causing immense losses. The British had the victory in this battle.

How the war started was that General Burgoyne (British) collided with General Gates' army near a farm of Loyalist John Freeman. In the end the Americans forced the English to surrender.
