  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The war cost the British tons of money, leading for them to tax the colonists. Ultimately, this caused the revolution.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Taxed paper documents, but the colonists were more upset that they were being taxed without their consent.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act stated that colonists were forced to house British soldiers. This is one of many acts that angered the colonists, but this was so so outrageous in their eyes, it was put into the Constitution, under the 3rd Amendment.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    This was the first attempt at colonial unity against the British.
  • Townshend Duties

    Townshend Duties
    These acts were passed to gain revenue to pay for the French and Indian War, which angered the colonists due to a lack of representation.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The exaggerated deaths of five colonists at the hands of British soldiers. This caused conflic to grow between colonists and the Recoats
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    While this lowered the cost of tea, this act was passed to bail out the Britich Easy India Company. At this point, the colonists because they were against all British taxes.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    To protest the Tea Act, the Sons of Liberty hijacked tea from several ships and threw it into the harbor. In response, Britain passed the intolerable acts.
  • Intolerable (Coercive) Acts

    Intolerable (Coercive) Acts
    This bunch of acts was passed to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. This outraged the colonies, hence why the "Coercive Acts" became known as the "Intolerable Acts". This was the last straw for the colonies to demand their independence.

    This was when colonies began starting to act more like a country, rather than several independent states. In a sense, this was the first form of government.
