    Stamp Act
    The British Parliament put direct tax on goods in the American colonies. It was a law passed to raise money for the soldiers who went out pass the Appalachian mountains where they were not meant to be. The people of the colonies revolted on this Act.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    British soldiers shot at American colonists, starting the Boston Massacre. It was a huge street fight between the British and the Colonists. This event was symmetrical.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea party was asymmetrical. The Colonists went onto the Britain ships carrying the tea that was being taxed and they threw it off board into the water. The Colonists specifically only threw off the tea, nothing else.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    This was the first battle with armed soldiers on both sides. The battle was fought symmetrically with the Colonists on one side and the British on the other. The Colonists ended up with Victory at Lexington and Concord.
  • Bunker (Breed's) Hill

    In this battle the British defeated the Americans. Although they won, both sides suffered many losses of men. This battle put a big dent in the American army and they then knew that they could not fight symmetrically like this anymore. This was when George Washington realized he would have to use other tactics and start fighting asymmetrically.

    Common Sense was a pamphlet by Thomas Payne advocating independence. Thomas Payne went around streets handing out the pamphlet and preaching it to the townspeople. At first many people were angered that someone would publish something advocating independence but soon people realized it was right.

    The Declaration of Independence is a document written by the Continental Congress. It states that the 13 colonies are independent and no longer under the ruling of Britain.
  • Battle of Trenton and Princeton

    Battle of Trenton and Princeton
    The American army crossed Delaware in mid winter. Many soldiers wanted to quit and go home but after the victory at Trenton and then Princeton most decided to stay. This battle was fought very asymmetrically. George Washington and his men surprised the British one early morning and won.

    The Battle of Saratoga was symmetrical. There were actually two battles of Saratoga. The first battle was on September 19th, 1777. The second battle was on October 7th, 1777. The Americans won the battle, because of this the Americans and the French became allies.
  • Continental Army Wintering at Valley Forge

    The Americans built their own fort in Valley Forge. George Washington did not want him and his troops to invade peoples houses and privacy like the British were doing to so many people. The Americans had to build everything in their fort from scratch. This includes things like huts and food. Many soldiers died from diseases, cold, and lack of food. In the end, being in the fort helped because here they learned how to march correctly and be a better army.

    This battle was an asymmetrical battle. The Americans at first had the strategy to run away because they were not strong enough to fight symmetrically. The British would get close to the Americans and they would run away again. In the end the Americans surrounded the British and defeated them.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktown was an asymmetrical battle. In this battle the Americans became very weak and the French reinforced them with troops and soldiers. Many men died in this battle just from building trenches, preparing for the battle. The British were defeated by the Americans. The Americans then won the American Revolution, gaining freedom and independence for their country.
