    The XYZ Affair was a political and diplomatic episode in 1797 and 1798, early in the administration of John Adams, involving a confrontation between the United States and Republican France that led to an undeclared naval war called the Quasi-War. The name derives from the substitution of the letters X, Y and Z for the names of French diplomats in douments realesed by Adams. This inceased the power of the federal government because it showed that we would not tolerate things like this.

    In the War of 1812, the United States took on the greatest naval power in the world, Great Britain. Some of the causes of the war include, Britian's attempts of restrict US trade and America's desire to expand its territory.
  • The Battle of Lake Erie

    This battle was fought during the War of 1812. Nine vessels of the United States Navy defeated and captured six vessels of British Royal Navy. This ensured American control of the lake for the rest of the war. This was one of the largest naval battles of the war.
  • The Burning of our capital

    During the War of 1812, a British force, led by Major General Robert Ross occupied Washington DC and set fire to many buildings, including the White House and the Capitol.

  • The Transcontinental Treaty

    This treaty is an agreement between Spain and the United States. The treaty transfers the Floridas from Spain to the United States for $5 million. It also advanced the U.S. border across Mexico to the Pacific Ocean. This shows and example of forgein affairs.
