Prohibited slavery in the north part of the Louisiana Purchase except for Missouri. -
Nat Turner's Rebellion
Nat Turner and a bunch of other slaves killed a bunch of white slave owners as an act of rebellion. -
Texas Indpendence
Mexico adopted a different form of government that Texas didn't like so they decided to secede and this caused a war between Texas and Mexico but Texas won and they still fought a bit until the end of the Mex-Amer war when Texas joined America. -
Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo
This ended the Mexican vs. American war. We also got California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. -
Compromise of 1850
As a result of this the Fugitive Slave Act was more strictly enforced but slavery was illegal in the southwest and slave trade was banned in Washington D.C. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott's owner took him to Illinois, which prohibited slavery, and he got married to another slave. They had a child who was born in a free state which technically made her a free person. They returned to Louisiana with their owners but didn't sue. When he tried to purchase his freedom, his owner refused so he sued. Howerver, the court ruled that since he was property he could not sue so he and his family remained slaves.
