    The battle at New York was the first battle where the Americans really started to lose. They were confident at first, but towards the end of the battle, their defense proved to be no match for the British soldiers who were much more disciplined and experienced than the ragged American troops. The British only lost about 370 soldiers, while the Americans lost almost around four times that much. The battle was over within days, and Howe decides to give the Americans time to think about surrender.

    Washington is almost too prideful to retreat, but they do when the situation appears too desperate. The British chase the Americans across New York, New Jersey, and into Pennsylvania. The troops are in poor condition, and barely have any food or clothes. The weather was cold, icy, and muddy. Many soldiers went home, saying that anyone who wanted to join the cause was crazy.

    The Battle of Trenton was one of the most significant events during the American Revolution because it proved that the Americans had some still had a chance to beat the British. Washington’s army crossed the icy Delaware River with little hope. The men were cold, tired, and hungry but they kept going due to Thomas Paine’s The Crisis.

    When the troops arrived in Trenton an officer told Washington that the guns were too wet. But washington said to use the revolvers and keep going because they had to win that night. The Americans found the Hessains sound asleep in bed and they attacked. Due to suprise the Americans got 868 prisoners in one night. This proved that they had a chance against the British.

    When the Battle of Saratoga was fought the Colonial Army ended up defeating Britain after Gentleman Johnny surrendered. Before this battle was fought it looked as though the Colonists didn’t stand a chance. However after this battle proved to the rest of the world that they could defeat the all mighty British. Now that they appeared to stand a fighting chance France decided to ally with them.

    This was a large turning point in the war because the France had plenty of supplies and men to out the Americans above and beyond the power of the British. The Colonial army and their new ally’s started to dominate the war.

    The events at the Treaty of Paris were one of the most significant during the American Revolution, because both the Americans and British signed it. It had three important parts. First, Britain had to recognize the United States as an independent nation. Next, Britain gave up its claims to all lands between the Atlantic Coast, from Canada south to Florida. Finally, United States had to return all rights and property that was taken from the Loyalists during the war.
