He was born in Hodgenville Kentucky, Feb. 12, 1809. From then on he lived in a log cabin.

Lincoln left home at age 17. He worked as a ferryman’s helper.

His sister’s name was Sarah. Lincoln and Sarah were very close to each other.

He ran for Illinois state legislature in 1832 but lost, until he won in 1834.

Lincoln studied law for three years until passing his exams.He would sometimes walk down the street reciting one of his law books!

Mary Ann Todd was the first woman he loved. She was witty and stylish.

Lincoln and Mary were told that they couldn’t marry.Later their parents said they could marry and they did.

He won the Whig party. Soon after he took his seat in Congress he introduced a series of resolutions attacking the Democrats’ war policy.

After his term in Congress he stayed out of politics for five years. He used this time to practice law.

Kansas and Nebraska had been declared off-limits to slavery. Future slavery in those territories would be determined by the people.

Lincoln wasn’t successful in a bid for the Senate as a Whig. After that he joined the Republican party because they were against slavery.

When election day came, Lincoln waited in his house until he got the final answers of who won. In the south his name wasn’t even on the ballots, but he still won!

The Civil War started at Fort Sumter. Rebel cannons were fired at the Fort and finally it surrendered.

Lincoln released the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862 but it took effect in 1863. It was aimed at the heart of the Confederacy.

The Gettysburg Address was a speech that remembered the soldiers that fought in battle. It is known that the speech only lasted 2 minutes!

Generals Lee and Grant met at Appomattox Court house in Virginia. Soon after the battle Lee surrendered to Grant.

6 days after the war ended, Lincoln and his wife went to Ford’s Theater to see a play. There, he was shot by John Wilkes Booth and died at 7:22 A.M. April 15, 1865.
