    Christiphor Columbus's Spanish Exploration

    King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella sponsered Christopher Columbus's journey trying to get to the Indies. On August 19, 1492 Columbus started trying to sail to the Indies. On October 12, 1493 a lookout sighted land. When they got to the land, Columbus claimed it for Spain. For three months he explored what he thought what was the Indies but was actually the Americas which was a land mass between Europe and Asia. Some effects of this voyage were they dicovered America and brought back corn, spices.

    John Cabot's English Exploration

    John Cabot made the first voyage for England. He believed he could reach the Indies by sailing northwest across the Atlantic Ocean. He landed in Canada but he thought he landed on the northeast coast of Asia. An effect of his exploration was Englands first land claim of Canada.

    Vasco Da Gama's Portugese Exploration

    Vasco Da Gama sailed from Portugal to India to be able to trade directly with India. He sailed from July 18, 1497 to May 20, 1502. He brought back loads of cinnamon and pepper. He lost half his ships on the way back but the goods payed for the journey many times over. An effect of his exploration was that more explorers and traders want to trade directly with India. This could have led to inflation.

    Giovanni da Verrazano's French Exploration

    Giovanni da Verrazano's exploration was from present day North Carolina to Canada. An effect of this gave France it's first land claims.

    Henry Hudson's Neatherlands Exploration

    Henry Hudson wanted to find a northwest passage through North America to the Pacific Ocean. He didn't find a northwest passage but explored the Hudson River in present day New York. An effect of his exploration was the settlement of the colony New Amsterdam created by the Dutch. Another effect because of his journeys was better cartography.
