    Prince Henry opened the first school of navigation in Europe. He taught portuguese, jewish, arab, spanish, and italian. He built trade routes to get better trade and more power. Even though he was a navigator he never sailed on a single ocean.

    Bartolomeu Dias

    Dias readied ships getting ready for a long, hard voyage. During his voyage as he was sailing the coast of Africa his ship was blown southward, this made the ship end up in east Africa. He claimed this land and named it Cape of Good Hope.

    Columbus was a skilled navigator from Genoa, he had the belief, like most people, that the world was flat. He set sail in 1492, they were out at sea for a long time and his crew wanted to go back, but Columbus wouldn't let them, even though they threatened mutiny. He was conviced he found Asia, but he actually found America.

    Spanish was worried that Portigul might try to take Spain from them. They then asked pope Alexander v1 for his help. The pope then drew a amaginary line from the north pole to the south pole called the papel line of demarcation. It was 300 miles long. Spain the non chrisan lands west and Portugal wanted a different way to divide the lands. So they made the treaty of Tordesilla witch was better so portugal could have Brazil.

    Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese noble who led a convoy, of four ships down the river of Tagus. After four months at sea his ship made its way to Cape of Good Hope. They thhen sailed the coast of Africa and made their way to an island of a Muslim trading center, this island was Mozambique. When the Muslims found out de Gama was christian they forced the Europeans to leave. At his finally stop in Calicut they tried to kill Gama. They left and sailed to their home land of Lisbon.

He sailed to Mexico and then on his jurny a series of hurricanes and natives attackes killed 300 of the crew. So they had take rafts and hold 80 people on 2 rafts. He eventuly landed at Gavelston. After he gave it to Spain.
