    Foundation of Exploration

    The foundation of Exploration was the time when Europeans set sail on journeys to find new lands.As the Europeans set sail to find new lands new forms of technology were created.The compass was created to help sailors figure ou their directions,The astroble allowed sailors to calculate their locations.They built better ships to help them move and carry heavier loads.These technologies helped Sailors journey to new land more easily.

    Portugese Exploration and Vasco de Gama
    The Portugese were the first to go on large-scale voyages. Henry the Navigator wanted to find a route to India by going around Africa. Henry was unable to reach India because he died as h was working on his goal.Vasco de Gama continued Henry's goal. He passed by several ports in Africa on his way to India. When they reached India the Portugese created trading center where they could trade between India and Europe, because of this Trade Portugal became one of the richest nations in Europe.

    Spanish exploration andChristopher Columbus
    Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer that wanted to to around the world from Spain to China. He landed in South America thinking he was in the Indies. Christopher Columbus traveled to South America many times thinking it was Asia before a man named Amerigo Vespucci traveled along the coast of Southa America and concluded that it was not Asia but a new land. As the Spanish traveled through South America they found many new resources and crops.

    Henry VII of England suggested that a man named John Cabot, who was an English man born in Italy, should sail to Asia. Cabot ended up landing in Canada. As Cabot was on his secong journey to Canada his ship went missing. Thought on his disapearance were that he ended up in America. Later on Henry Hudson set off to find a passage way around Europe to Asia, but ended up with no luck and returned to England.

    The French were also trying to find a route to Asia. They eventually came up with a plan to use a North western passage.A man named Jacques Cartier reached the coast of Canada and Newfoundland and ended up claiming that the land he arrived on was his. This influenced the French to add on to his Claims.The french ended up not using there idea of the North Western passage because of the new land that they had found.
  • Dutch Exploration

    Dutch Exploration
    Inthe 1600's the Netherlands was already trading in Asia. They wanted to find more trading centers/places, so they decided they wanted to go explore America as well. Henry Hudson who explored for the English wanted to revive the Idea of finding a Northwest passage. He failed at this but founded the Hudson river which he gives its name.

    Moctezuma II was the emperor in Mexico when the Spanish had come. Hernan Cortes led the Spanish to Mexico. Cortes wanted to conquer the whole of Mexico and defeat the Aztecs. Cortes sided with the Native Americans who were not on good terms with the Aztecs and their alliance ment doom for the Moctezuma and his empire. Later on Moctezuma died and Cortes conquered the Aztec empire.

    Jamestown was one of Englands colonies in America. The English went to James Town because they wanted Gold and Silver. John Smith was one of the explorers that discovered James Town.Pilgrims from Englan also moved to America to start new lives. The English disliked the Native Americans because they thought they were betrayers and could not be trusted.

    Spain in the Caribbean
    The Spanish owned much of the Caribbean Islands.As the Spanish moved across the Caribbean they were looking for metals such as Gold which they could not find. Many of the Native Americans were forced into slavery to work on the colonists land. Many of them died because of the diseases that the Spaniards had brought such as measles, tuberculosis and Smallpox. These introductions caused the Native American population to reduce by millions.

    The French and The British started conflicting because the British were settling in French territories.They decided to go to war, known as the French and Indian war, because of their tension. The war was called the French and Indian war because the English and French both had alliances with native americans.The war was later won by the British causing them to own more land than before and causing the French to surrendor and give up most of their land.
