Operation Red Wings
It was a combined military operation that took place in the Pech District of Afghanistan's Kunar Province, on the slopes of a mountain named Sawtalo Sar. The goal of Operation Red Wings was the disruption of Anti-Coalition Militia (ACM) activity in the region. The battle resulted in the death of 19 Americans and many Taliban fighters.

Battle of Wanat
The battle happened when about 200 Taliban guerrillas attacked NATO troops near the village of Wanat in the Waygal district in Afghanistan. The village was defended primarily by U.S. Army soldiers. The battle was said to be one of the bloodiest attacks of the war in Afghanistan, with 9 U.S. soliders killed and 27 wounded, and about 21–52 Taliban and al-Qaeda killed and 45 wounded.
