7:00 a.m. The President woke, lit a fire, worked on some papers, and read the newspaper. His wife and his son joined him the dining room for breakfast where they discussed Robert's plans to go back to law school. -
11:00 a.m.
Lincoln met with his cabinet. including General Grant. The cabinet members recalled the President's unusuallu neat appearance. They figured this was due to ending of the war. -
3:00 p.m.
The President and the First Lady go for their usual carriage drive. The President talks about his plans for the future, traveling to California and Europe, and his return to his law practice in Springfield at he end of his term. -
6:00 p.m.
The Lincoln family had dinner. Mary had one of her headaches and suggested that they stay home that evening. The President felt compelled to attend because his attendance had already been published in the newspaper. -
8:30 p.m.
The President, Mrs. Lincoln, Major Rathbone, and Miss Harris arrived at Ford's Theater. The play stopped and the President was greeted with "Hail to the Chief" and a standing oviation. -
10:30 p.m.
John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln. -
