Port Royal sound in south carolina was captured by US captainn samuel F. slave owners in the area quickly leaving many slaves and they all became freed slaves. -

General david hunter of the union, organizes the first black troops,nearly 200,000 african americans all served in the union forces. -
Abe Lincoln frees all slaves
Abe Lincoln signed the final Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all slaves through out all of the United States. -

The battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the war and is the most bloodiest battle with around 41,000 men dead in less then two days -

Confederates Evacuate Atlanta
Confederates under general John Hood evacuate from atlanta, Georgia. The next day, Union Forces led by general William Sherman occupy the city. -
Abe Lincoln Re-elected
After following the Unions victory they chose to reelect Abe Lincoln with Andrew Johnson as his vice President. -
Thirteenth Amendment
Approves the 13th Amendment, which calls for the emancipation of all slaves and no compensation to their owners. The amendment was passed by the Senate in 1864 ,but failed to recieve the necessary votes in the house. -

Abe was our 16th president of the United States and led us through the civil war and helped stop slavery.
