Abraham Lincoln becomes a lawyer. This was important because it shows he was very smart. It was also important because it taught him about the constitution. This later got him interested in politics. -
Start of Politics
Lincoln runs for senate against Stephen Douglass. This was important because it was the first Abraham Lincoln really got involved with politics. At the end of the election Stephen Douglass came out victorious. However, this got Abraham Lincoln more involved into politics. -
President
Lincoln was elected president. This was important because the south seceded and Abraham Lincoln had to try to restore America. During his presidency he was the leader of the union during the civil war. -
War
Abraham Lincoln declares war on the Confederate States of America.This was a very important event. This war was the start of the end of slavery. This war caused millions of people to die to try to restore the union back to one. -
Homestead Act
Lincoln passed the Homestead Act. This allowed western settlers to claim up to 160 acres of land. This was important because it gave many settlers homes. Also because the settlers had to do work to be able to claim the land, it greatly increased the economy. -
Morrill Land Grant
Abraham Lincoln passed the Morrill land grant. This gave many states and territories land to build colleges. This greatly increased job numbers and education in many citizens -
Emancipation Proclamation
Abraham Lincoln passed the emancipation proclamation. This was supposed to free all the slaves however the south refused. Even though the south refused to free their slaves, it still had many advantages. It allowed slaves to fight in the war and it changed the viewpoint of the war. -
U.S. National Bank
Lincoln establishes the U.S. National bank. This was important because during the civil war the United States needed to keep a stable economy. -
Civl War Ends
Lincoln wins the civil war. This was important for many many reasons. But the two most important reasons are that it reunited the nation and ended slavery. If Lincoln have lost the civil war we would today be known as the Confederate States of America and slavery would still be around. -
Assassination
Lincoln was assassinated. On April 14, 1865 president Abraham Lincoln was shot in the head. He died the next day. He was shot by John Wilkes Booth who was later captured and killed for murder. This marks the end of the one of the best presidents life.
