  • Federation

    Federation in Australia. "Blacks and aborigines not counted.." Legalisation of any race besides aboriginal people.
  • NSW Aboriginal Protection act

    Aboriginal children are not allowed to go to the same schools as the whites. Half casts were illlegal to live on reserves. Segregation prevented much interaction between whites and blacks.
  • Aboriginal Army Service

    Aboriginal people served in the Australian army and they were even amongst the soldiers in Gallipoli WW1
  • Free for the taking

    NSW Aborigines Protestion Broad were given the auothority to remove aboriginal children without a court hearing.
  • Banned?

    Aboriginal people were denied maternity allowance as well as old age pension. They were banned from central Perth till 1948
  • Conniston Massacre

    Eauropeans shot 32 aboriginals dead after a Eauropean digger was attacked by them. Still, the aboriginals were refused legal aid.
  • Assimilation

    Aboriginals were still encouraged to adapt to the way white people live however they had the freedom to practice their culture and traditions.
  • Day of Mourning

    The Aboriginal's Day of Mourning or now referred to as invasion day. The day marks the time when the first fleet arives at Australia's borders and invading the land by storm.
  • First School

    In the 1950's, the first school was made to educate and provide to aboriginal children.
  • Stamp honour

    First aboriginal to be honoured on a stamp, Albert Namatjira was also the first aboriginal person to be accepted as a citizen in the commonwealth.
  • Referendum!

    90% voted to legislate Aboriginal people to be counted in the census. People wished and hoped for the end of constitutional descrimination. The following census was the first to count aborigines due to the referendum.
  • Aboriginal Flag

    Aboriginal Flag is designed by Luritja artist Harold Thomas and flown for the first time in Adelaide.
  • Self Determination policy

    Aboriginals were now free to support themselves culturally and choose their own was of life. The white Asutralia policy was discarded.
  • Mabo

    It is decided that Native Title is existant on certain places or land. This proves that the claim of Terra Nulius on Australia by the first fleet was false.
  • Wik people

    The wik people made a claim of native title on their land in the federal court of australia. The land claimed to be of their native title was the Cape York Penensula in Queensland. The act did not pass through until the end of the year.
  • 'Sorry'

    The parliment of Australia apoligises for all the mistakes and wrong doings of past parliments towards aboriginal people. The premier apoligises for the Stolen Generations who were taken from aboriginal families accros Australia.
