  • First Fleet

    Captain Phillip and the First Fleet returns to colonize the country with convicts.

  • Protectionism

    The Royal Society for the Protection of Aborigines was established in New South Wales

  • Protector of Aborigines

    The government of NSW is appointed the protector of Aborigines

  • Protection Act

    The Aborigines Protection Act was passed in NSW, which led to the appointment of white ‘guardians’ who had control over Aboriginals

  • Cootamundra Girl's Home

    Cootamundra Girls Home was set up

  • Kinchela Boy's Home

    Kinchela Boy’s Home was set up

  • Assimilation Policy

    NSW Aborigines Protection Act stopped and replaced with an Assimilation Policy

  • Referendum

    Referendum which saw 90.77% of Australia’s population voted yes to change the Constitution to allow the Commonwealth to make laws for Aborigines and to include them in the census.
