The Lincoln-Douglas debates in 1858 brought Lincoln national attention.
The election of 1860 was basically North vs. South and although Lincoln only got 39% of the people’s votes, he won all 18 “free (Northern) states” and got a majority of electoral votes.
Abraham went into office. He was 51 years old. He was the 16 president.
Andrew johnson became Abraham's vice president.
He peserved the union. And that is when the Civil War started!
