Russia, Britain and France had an alliance called the Triple Entente. When Austria-Hungary invaded Serbia following the assassination of the heir-apparent to the throne of Austria-Hungary (Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria) Russia joined in to help Serbia per a separate agreement. -
1939: Britain enters World War II
Britain joined WWII for a confluence of reasons, chief among these was the growing acceptance that Germany's expansionist policy would inevitable bring the UK into conflict with Germany, and that delaying would give further advantage to the growing German war machine.
