  • Missouri Compromise

    It banned slavery north of latitude 36*30', except in Missouri. It prevented the Union from falling apart and it admitted Main as a state without slavery.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    A Rebellion lead by Nat Turner where they killed white slaveowners. They ended up killing 61 whites in there 3 day hunt.
  • Gag Rule

    The gag rule was a 10 year banned of antislavery laws because they wouldn't get anywhere with it. The gag rule prevented consideration of an antislavery proposal.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    It prohibited slavery in the territory added to the United States from the Mexican-American War. The South thought that the new territory should be slave land but the North thought the land should be free.
  • Harreit Tubman escapes slavery

    Harreit Tubman escapes slavery
    She got saved by the underground railroad after she left on her own and she went from house to house pretending to work. The people at the safe houses would tell her the directions to the next one.
  • Compromise of 1850

    It said that California would be a free state and New Mexico and Utah would be able to choose for themselves on slavery. It ended the slave trade in Washington, D.C and passed a strong fugitive slave law.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin published

    It was not a real event and only made up. It depicted how slaves were treated by owners. The south felt like the north was accusing them of being bad people.

    It got rid of the Missouri Compromise. It said that Kansas and Nebraska could choose whether they had slavery or not. The North thought that the south was trying to get more states so that they could win in Congress.

    Proslavery settlers and border ruffians from Missouri invaded Lawrence, Kansas. hotels and several homes were destroyed and they tossed the printing press of an abolitionist newspaper into the Kaw River.

    No African American, whether slave or free, was an American citizen. The Missouri Compromise was against the constitution because it takes property for slave owners and Scott.

    It was a series of political debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. It helped make Lincoln a national figure and is argument with Douglas also brought the moral issue of slavery into sharp focus.

    John Brown was frustrated how the congress was dealing with slavery. He decided he wanted to steal and give the guns to the slaves to start a slave rebellion.

    Lincoln won the presidential election with just 40 percent of the votes. South thought they no longer had the power to shape national events or policies, and feared that, sooner or later, Congress would try to abolish slavery.
