    5 New Laws were put into place. California joined the union as a free state. Slave Trade ended in Washington D.C. A strong fuugitive slave act was put into place. Texas and places west of Rio Grande were released. No laws against slavery were put into place in the new Mexico Territory.

    African Americans were being put back into slavery for reasons that did not make much sense. Some slaves went to show their papers, and the men would rip them up, and then later say they didn't have any.

    A violent event occurred when John Brown and his sons murdered 5 pro-slavery men. After this, buildings were burned, and armimed were formed on each side. Congress did not agree with the constitution written by pro-slavery men, and Kansas could not become a state.

    The Republican Party was formed. The Whig party was split by the Kansas- Nebraska act. They were new, and many people were not fond of their ideas, so it was hard for them to gain support.

    Dred Scott was in court many times. The second time he went, his family and himself were considered free. But, then he was ruled as a slave by the surpreme court because he lived in Missouri.

    Abraham Lincoln was against slavery. However, he knew he could not abolish slavery, so he did not let it expand into other states, and just kept it contained to one area.

    John Brown wanted to start a liberatino movement against slaves and slavery. He seized federal arsenal, killing seven and injuring 10. He tried to arm the slaves but his entire army was either caught or killed within 36 hours. He was later hung for his actions.

    There were actually 4 candidates due to the disagreements. Lincoln won the north, and Breckenridge won the South. But Lincoln officially won and became the president of the United States of America.

    Secession is the act of withdrawing formally from an alliance, federation, or association. The Southern United Sates did this first, and created the Confederate States of America.

    The Confederate States of America is what the Southern States Formed after leaving the United States. Their first president, which was elected the same way as in the United States was Jefferson Davis.
