    3/5 Compromise
    The 3/5 compromise was a compromise made between the southern and northern states.This compromise was reached during the philadelphia convention. This compromise stated that each slave would count as 3/5 of a person when it came to population counts for the state. Most people that opposed slavery were not in favor for counting the slaves when it came to population because the slaves had no rights so therefore they didn't contribute to government.

    The fugitive slave clause is a clause that was added to th United States Constitution. It stated "No Person held to Service or Labour in one State, under the Laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in Consequence of any Law or Regulation therein, be discharged from such Service or Labour, but shall be delivered up on Claim of the Party to whom such Service or Labour may be due." This means that if a slave escapes from their owner and is than found they must be brought back to their owner.

    The missouri compromise was a compromise between the anit-slavery and the pro-slavery members of congress. The compromise created and imagenary line at 36'.30' crossing the United States. Slavery south of the line was allowed, north of the line slavery was not permitted. The missouri compromise also made it so that missouri became a slave state and maine was than added as a free state. The free states than out numbered the slave states.

    The annexation of Texas was the republic of texas to the united states. The people in the south were in strong favor of texas becoming a state. The people in the north strongly opposed texas becoming it's own state. The reason that texas wanted to become a state was because it would be a very strong political gain for the south. The annexation of texas was what led to the mexican war. With the Mexican war the united states gained much territory.

    The fugitive slave act was a compromise deciding weather or not california became a free or slave state. In the end california became a free state. It also prohibited the slave trade in the district of columbia. The fugitive slave act helped many slave catchers. Sense you are no longer allowed to import slaves from other countries into america many free black people were being captured and forced into slavery.

    'King Cotton" argument
    "King Cotton" was a phrase mostly used by people in the south, mainly southern politicians. Cotton became a main sorce of income for lots of people in south. They would grow large fields of it. There was an invetion called the cotton gin, it allowed for cotton shirts tobe made much faster and easier. This made a large demand for cotton because middle class people could now afford different shirts. The south deemanded that they have more slaves to pick their cotton and the north opposed.

    Kansas- Nebraska Act
    The Kansas and Nebraska act is what created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska. This act replaces the Missouri compromise. This act allowed settlers in the areas to decide weather or not they would allow slavery. The main reason for the act was to allow oppertunities for mideastern trancontinental railroads. It allowed so the citizens of the state could vote for wether or not they would want slavery, not the government telling them weather or not it would be allowed.
