  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The causes were competition over land in North America. Wars in Eutope increase tensions between France and Britain. Power of government was under the Albany Plan. This imposed taxes, raised an army and navy, and construct forts for trade. It was rejected by colonial legislatures. Colonies didn't want to give up power to a federal power. The French and Indian War caused the proclamation line which didn't allow settlement past the Appalachian mountain.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre started when 400 colonists started threatening and throwing snow balls filled with ice and oyster shells at the soldiers. The colonists were carrying clubs and beat one of the soldiers with it, They were yelling at the soldiers and daring them to shoot. The captain was standing in front of his men so they didn't order them to fire but one soldier fired becasue he was being brutally injured. After the so-called massacre, 5 colonists were dead at the scene.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The British put a tax on tea. Making it hard for the colonists to buy the tea. They started to boycott and agree to a non-importation agreement which means not to buy or sell British goods. Small store owners had to buy the British goods but since tea was a big deal they decide to do something about it. All things were illegal.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonists decided to dump many pounds of tea into the harbor. England is determined to exert control. England sees it as a threat to British rule. The British want to put Boston in its place. They want to downgrade Boston.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    They were a result to the Boston tea party. The British gave Quebec to the French. They wouldn't allow ships in or out of the harbor. Any British soldier accused of committing a crime in the colonies had to return to England to be tried and the verdict was always innocent.
  • 1st and 2nd Continental Congress

    1st and 2nd Continental Congress
    The colonists met in 1774 because of the intolerable acts. They wanted the king to answer a few questions. Some supported boycotts but others say that they are problematic. They wanted to make it illegal to buy/drink British tea. Committees of Correspondance were formed which allowed the houses to be searched, the violoaters' names were posted in the newspaper, and the violators were blacklisted. Militias are starting to form all of Mass. The king sent 20,000 troops to the colonies.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The colonists found out about the troops because of Paul Revere. The militia would hide and wait until the soldiers would walk by. The let them through on the way there to look for things that were smuggled, they found nothing so they had to walk back. On the way back the colonists would shoot the one in the back so that they could run away. In the end, 273 soldiers were dead and only 95 colonists were dead.
