  • Missouri Compromise

    In 1819,Henry Clay made the Missouri Compromise it stated that if a state that wanted to join was above 36˚30’ latitude had to be free slave state anything below was a slave state except for Missouri. It was made because Missouri wanted to be a slave state but the north did not want U.S. to be unbalance with the slave state and the free slave states. So they let Missouri be a slave state and they also let Maine in as a free slave state and the Missouri Compromise has kept peace for 35 years.
  • Compromise of 1850

    The north wanted California and the south did not think that was fair so because most of California was mostly under 34˚30 latitude so Henry Clay made the Compromise of 1850. The compromise stated that the North got California and the south got New Mexico and Utah if they decided wanted to be a slave state or a free slave state.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    In 1850, the government made the Fugitive Slave Act that made it were people who helped slaves get out of slavery were sent to jail. The north thought they should be free we have a right to help them and the south thought this is great we do not have to worry as much if people are going to help my slaves I will have an easier time getting my slaves if they run away.
  • Kansas-Nebraska Act

    The governments made an act were it let Kansas and Nebraska vote to be slave state or a free state. This was so big to them because really was going to deiced slavery or no slavery. It was basically the last straw.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred owner traveled to Illinois which was free slave state at the time so Dred didn’t that was fair so he bought the case to court were they said that it would have to be recognized by the Supreme Court. So the Supreme Court recognized them and they basically said, “You’re a piece of property we can’t just take you away from your owner.” The Dred Scott Decision was a very big deal to blacks because they had no respect.

    They had a vote that was very important to them because America was ready to split and this vote was really the only way to know if the United States of America was really going to split. After this Election were going to know is our country going to fall apart or is just going to be fine.
  • Secession

    Secession
    The North Carolina saw that the government did not enforce the Fugitive Slave Act so they declared Secession and soon the all of the south declare Secession of the south. So the south became the Confederacy and the north became the Union. In the end of Secession the United States of America split and were kind of getting in to war.
