    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise started in 1820. Henry Clay made Maine as a Free State and Missouri as a slave state. Henry Clay said that if there is a state that is north of 36° 30 it would be a Free states and South of it would be a slave states.
  • Slavery

    Slavery
    Slavery is when blacks don’t have rights and get treated as property. Slaves have to work day and night and have to eat from troughs. In the South southerners prohibited slaves from reading and writing. There weren't any slaves in the North, so the slaves had to go to the South because, the South had farmland.

    Nat Turners Rebellion
    Nat Turners Rebellion started in August 21, 1831 and when he sees things he thinks it’s a vision from god. One day Nat Turner saw an eclipse and thought that it meant kill the serpent. Nat Turner killed 57 whites (most were children). Then the militia came and killed 100 blacks and found Nat at a swamp an hung him.

    The Compromise of 1850 was when California turned into a free state and half of it was past the South part of 36° 30, so congress allowed Utah and Mexico vote if they want slavery to make it even for the North and South. Henry Clay said that the North had to help the South capture slaves. Abraham Lincoln got furious, so
    He made half of the United States free and half of it slave

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    The Kansas Nebraska Act was when Kansas and Nebraska were going to become states and they allowed them to decide if they wanted to be a free or a slave state. Then Kansas turned into a battle ground and a Pro-slavery mob wrecked Kansas, so John Brown got really upset and killed five settlers. It was the first time ever that Americans killed other Americans and over 200 people died.

    John Brown Rebellion
    The John Brown Rebellion was when John Brown, his sons and his followers launched an attacked in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. They took over the town and the arsenal. The militia led by Robert E. Lee got involved so they killed John Browns sons and injured him. On December 2, 1859 John Brown got hung and many years later he became a hero for abolitionists.

    The Election of Abraham Lincoln was when Abraham Lincoln turned president. When Abraham got elected the South did not vote for him. Abraham prohibited slavery, so then South Carolina said that the economy would go bad without slavery.

    The Secession was when South Carolina didn’t want to be part of the United States. Then South Carolina mad the Confederate States. Ten other states joined them and they were: Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Arkansas, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Then they Chose a president for the Confederate States and his name was Jefferson Davis.
