    The Missouri compromise is when Missouri wanted to be a state, a slave state. But if Missouri was a slave state it would upset the balance because there was an even amount of slave sates and Free states. Henry Clay thought because Maine was also running for a state so he said to make Maine a free state and Missouri a slave state so there was an even amount. It kept peace for thirty years before Henry Clay came with a new law which breaks the Missouri Compromise

    The first slaves came to the US in 1619. The north eventually gave up slaves for they no longer needed them with their factories and their new evolved city life. While the south was living on agriculture, massive farmland called plantations filled the land. Farming was hard work, but because the blacks had dark skin which they thought was dirty, they were kept as slaves. If slaves were to do something wrong they would be whipped and punished. They must do anything there master tells them to do.

    Nat Turners Rebellion was when the slaves rebelled against the whites. When Nat was a little boy he had black outs and thought they were signs from god. These signs became more and more fierce. One day when an eclipse happened he thought that god was telling him to launch an attack against the white people. He and many followers rose up and killed many white people and many children. But hundreds of black people died as a result.

    The Underground Railroad
    The Underground Railroad was organized systems that lead runaway slaves to freedom. On the way to Canada, where freedom awaits, you must go through several stops in order to get to the northern states or Canada. The most famous conductor of the Underground Railroad is Harriet Tubman. She helped runaway slaves to freedom and made several trips back to free more slaves. She did not set these slaves to liberation by herself; she got much of her help from freed balcks and white abolitions.

    John Brown Rebellion
    John Brown was a legendary abolitionist who wanted to build a refuge for the runaway slaves in Virginia. He and his five sons attacked a federal reserve in Harper’s Ferry. He effortlessly with his sons took over the arsenal and the town. General Lee and the US marines fought with the group and defeated them and killed two of his sons. John and his group surrendered and he was hanged.

    When Lincoln ran for the USA president even though he wasn’t on the nine ballets for the south because they thought that he would change the slavery and their life style too. But most of the north voted for him. Lincoln won the vote and the south was outraged. This is known as the straw that broke the camel’s back as all the issues were pilling up and when this happend it reuslted in the Civil War.

    The Secession was started by the state of South Carolina which felt that the country was not allowing slavery in all the states especially after Lincoln was elected. They wanted to separate from the USA and 11 states joined them. They became the Confederate States of America and elected their own president and made their own armies and forts. They even wrote their own constitution showing they were no longer part of the USA.
