    Misouri Compromise
    The Missouri compromise happened when Maine applied for state hood in 1820. There was a deal made by Henry Clay that the south would get Missouri as a slave state and the north would get Maine as a free state. In addition all lands acquired in the Louisiana purchase north of the 36 30 line are free others are slave state.

    Slavery
    Slavery was the worst in the 19th century. What happened was the whites owned slaves to use them to do their work for them. Whenever the slaves did something wrong they would get beat or even killed. Slaves also didn’t get much food to live on. Slaves started running away to the north which got the south very mad.

    What happened was Nat thought that he was getting messages from god. Soon his visions started to get violent. He thought the eclipse meant to take on a fight against the “Serpent”. Soon later he started roaming plantations killing as many whites that he could.

    The Congress pasted a new law in 1854; this was called the Kansas-Nebraska act. What happened was the people in Kansas and Nebraska got to choose if they wanted to be a free or slave state. The congress turned to Kansas first the slavery settlers won by a lot. And that is when the controversy started.

    Dred Scott Decision happened in 1857. Scott’s lawyer argued even though he and his wife were slaves. The case went through the local courts and finally to the Supreme Court and 7 out of 9 people agreed it should be a case. The Chief of the Supreme Court said, “you can’t take property without going through the right legal steps.
  • John Brown Rebellion

    John Brown Rebellion happened on October 16, 1859. John and his 5 son’s and a group of supporters attacked the Feral Arsenal at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia. Easily beat them. Soon John and his small group were surrounded by local militia and soon after the US marines led by Robert E. Lee.

    Election of 1860
    The election happened on the 6th of November. Once Lincoln was elected the southerners thought that he was going to take away slavery forever. So the south left the US and made their own country the Confederate States of America and elected their own president Jefferson Davis. That got the north angry and started the Civil War.
