  • Proclamation of 1763

    King George III declared the Appalachian mountains were the boundary for colonies. It was because of the end of the French and Indian War, and the colonists were very angry since they owned land across this boundary.
  • Taxation Without Representation

    Great Britain taxed everything because they needed money after being in debt from the French and Indian War. It angered the colonists.
  • Sugar Act

    The British Parliament lowered the taxes on molasses imported by colonists to stop smuggling and increase their tax revenue. This angered the colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    Parliament placed taxes on everything printed because they were still in debt and trying to gain power. This angerred the colonists.
  • Quartering Act

    Parliament wanted to cause punishment and payment of the army because people were neglecting or refusing to do their duties. The colonists became angry.
  • Declaratory Act

    Parliament claimed the right to tax and make decisions for British colonies because they lost the Stamp Act and needed to regain control. Colonists complained and wanted power back.
  • Townshend Act

    Parliament set taxes on all imported goods to try and make the colonists happy. Colonists were outraged and boycotted British goods.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston colonies protested the British soldiers and accused them of many things. The colonists were outraged and considered it propoganda.
  • Tea Act

    Parliament wanted to send tea to the British colonies and sell it cheap so the East India Trading Co. would profit. Colonists were mad because they were undercutting local merchants.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Sons of Liberty disguised themselves as Indians and threw chests of tea off of British ships into the Harbor. The citizens of Boston refused to allow British to unload the tea, and celebrated the bravery of the Sons of Liberty.
  • Coercive (Intolerable Acts)

    King George III and parliament closed the Boston Harbor until colonists could pay back tea; they were to be puished for the Boston Tea Party. Food was delayed and the colonists felt isolated and angry.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    55 delegates from every colony but Georgia became a group that would represent Americans so they could gain back liberty from British. The colonists were overjoyed and helped the Congress by forming militias to prepare for a war.
